Self Portraits
painted on canvas
we are taking all of January to work on our self portraits. My goal is to have a portrait of each student and decorate our hallways with their faces/art!
Instead of just throwing a drawing on canvas and painting it, as many of my students want to do, I’m having everyone slow down. We are learning about self portraits, viewing and discussing examples, learning to observe while drawing and discover the things we appreciate about ourselves. What do we want to share about ourselves so when someone looks at our final piece of art they’ll know something about you. Maybe it’s an emotion, or a characteristic/personality trait, a story, a hope or dream, how you view your features, etc.
the students really took this part of the lesson to heart and during their sketch time I could see their creative wheels turning. more to come!!
